If you've passed by our space on Rijeka's harbor and paused at the new name — you're not alone. Many friends, locals, and travelers still remember us as Kavana Grad, the café by the port known for its coffee, cakes, and laid-back charm.

Today, we're Bistro Grad — and while much has changed, the heart of what we do remains the same.

Why the Change?

Over the years, we've grown — not just in what we serve, but in how we see ourselves.

What started as a cozy café evolved into something more. Our guests wanted more than a coffee and cake. They were asking about the food, staying longer for lunch, returning for dinner. And we realized: we wanted more too.

We wanted to create something deeper — a place where every dish has a story, where our heritage shapes the menu, and where the kitchen becomes the heart of the experience.

What Makes Bistro Grad a Bistro

This transition isn't just about a name. It's about intention.

Today, Bistro Grad is led by Chef Mario Štokić, who worked as a sous chef in the only two Michelin-starred restaurants in the Kvarner Bay. His experience brings refinement, creativity, and deep respect for ingredients into our kitchen.
